How to Prepare for Dumpster Delivery

A short checklist for choosing a placement spot, clearing access, and getting ready for delivery day in Southern Maine.

Choose a firm, level spot

A paved or gravel driveway is the most common choice. Soft lawns and steep slopes may not be suitable. Tell the rental company what the surface is when you request a quote.

Clear the path

  • Move vehicles, trailers, and anything parked along the route.
  • Note gates, narrow entries, tight turns, and low branches.
  • Check for overhead wires above the placement spot.

Plan for weather

In winter, keep the placement area plowed and free of ice so the container can be set down and picked up safely. Mention snowbanks or unplowed areas in advance.

Sort restricted items before loading

Set aside anything that needs approval or is not accepted — such as appliances, mattresses, tires, paint, and batteries — until you've confirmed how to handle it.

Load evenly and stay level

Spread weight across the container and keep debris at or below the top edge so it can be hauled safely.
